“THANKSGIVING IN MANCHESTER: A HISTORY OF THE MANCHESTER ROAD RACE” EXHIBIT OPENS SPONSORED BY USA HAULING & RECYCLING

A ribbon cutting ceremony for the opening of an exhibit about the Manchester Road Race, sponsored by USA Hauling & Recycling, called “Thanksgiving in Manchester: A History of the Manchester Road Race” was held on Wednesday, November 5th. The ceremony took place at the Manchester Community College’s Arts and Education Center on Main Street in Manchester, just down the street from the start line for the annual race. The exhibit contains photos, facts and memorabilia about the race, it’s runners and the tradition of the race.

An area Thanksgiving morning tradition since it was established in 1927, the 4.748 mile race brings upwards of 15,000 runners and walkers a year, along with thousands of people cheering them on. In attendance for the ceremony was Julia Chase-Brand, the first woman to ever run in a major road race when she completed the Manchester Road Race in 1961.

The ceremony started with a ceremonial run down main street in honor of the exhibit by members of the Manchester High School cross country team. Inside, the ribbon cutting took place with Manchester Mayor Jay Moran holding one end of the ribbon. Jim Balcome, director of the Manchester Road Race then gave some history of the race, along with some words from Jay Moran, Stephen Gates, Manchester Board of Directors, Julia Chase-Brand and some other accomplished local runners showing support for the race.

As a proud sponsor of the Manchester Road Race, USA Hauling & Recycling will be providing trash and recycling services for the event.  The exhibit will be open free to visitors now through November 29th, Tuesday through Saturdays, including on Thanksgiving day. How one recycling plant is using AI to help make sorting process easier, faster

Murphy Road Recycling connected with Greyparrot , whose AI-powered material analyzers are installed in the All American MRF to do a feature for CBS News. Ambarish Mitra, the founder of Greyparrot, flew to Connecticut from the UK to visit our facility and spend some time with the crew who installed and maintain the analyzers. These analyzers use AI to identify materials going through the MRF, giving real time insight into the material stream. This data is used to provide quality control information, which is then used to adjust the system to improve efficiency and effectiveness. The CBS crew interviewed both Ambarish and our Director of Operations Jonathan Murray to discuss the relationship between advanced technology and the recycling industry. The CBS News feature aired in November and gained over 40 million nationwide impressions. We are incredibly proud of the hard work put in by our All American MRF crew to ensure the facility is constantly achieving excellence, and putting our region in national focus for recycling innovation.

Coming Together for a Cleaner River: Source to Sea Cleanup 2025

On September 27, a team of 10 dedicated volunteers from USA Waste & Recycling and All American Waste rolled up their sleeves and made a real difference along the Connecticut River. As part of the annual Source to Sea Cleanup, we joined forces with hundreds of others across the region, contributing our efforts at the Donald W. Barnes Boat Launch and the surrounding watershed area in Enfield, CT.
