Respect and Empowerment

USA Waste & Recycling bases its growth and culture on a foundation of respect for its employees, the community and the environment.

Since establishing Somers Sanitation in 1974, in Somers, Connecticut, the Antonacci family has forged a leadership position in the waste and recycling industry in Connecticut and Massachusetts. Over the course of its history, the family has pioneered compressed natural gas (CNG) use in trucks, established an award-winning workplace and helped to lead conversations around sustainability in New England.

"We moved up from Long Island to the town of Somers, and we brough a small trash company with a [single truck], and that's how we started, and we kept growing from there," Jerry Antonacci says of the family's start in the waste and environmental services industry.

Jerry says Somers Sanitation established a facility near Interstate 91 in about 1986, which was a milestone for the company that provided it with a centralized maintenance facility to enable further growth in the area.
